Brian and Rachel August 17, 2004

Kopps' Email

It is certainly Liz' and my privilege to congratulate you, Brian and Rachel, on this day above all days when the two of you become united in loving bonds of holy matrimony.

Rachel, I have known you from early childhood and now you are a beautiful young lady; talented and sensitive and kind. Brian, it doesn't seem I've known you any less as you life runs in parallel paths to mine; growing up in a new culture with all its challenges of language, identity and one's family's calling and vocation.

You both have pursued excellence and now you have chosen, Brian, a partner who has been exposed to many of life's beauties and stark realities of privilege and want on the African continent. How the components of the mosaic of you lives will yet fit together and complete one another, only God can see. But never fear, for the One who united the first couple is still in the match making business. Indeed, He joys over us in singing and delights when, under his canopy of committed lives to each other and under His divine guidance, we seek each day to validate and make our choices of one another more sure. In His providence your paths have brought you to Israel where an additional layer of His handiwork is still in the making. Where else would such an improbably match take place? Where you, Brian, have come on a long journey via Canada, through France to Jerusalem; you, Rachel, have come by way of California, USA, Egypt, Kenya and Sudan.

Yes, the Matchmaker is yet, in His unfathomable way, still making matches, taking the stones of our lives and shaping them in a complex and remarkable Mosaic of beauty.

We bless you and pray the Lord's very best as you allow Him to give definition and hue to the picture in the making that is you.
